Whiplash Compensation Advice

12 Apr, 2012

If you are in a car accident that resulted in painful whiplash, it is in your best interest to find whiplash compensation advice. This advice could be gleaned from an attorney, a solicitor, a physical, or an insurance claim representative. The Internet is also a useful tool to get the whiplash compensation advice that you need.

Talk to Your Insurance Company

The first step you should take is to talk to your insurance company about the accident and to see what coverage you have for injuries. Your insurance company may request that you visit your physician to confirm whether or not you have whiplash or other injuries.

There are general compensation and special compensation. In the case of general compensation for whiplash injuries, the approximate value will be used in determining the injury claim, and this is amount associated with the pain and suffering experienced by the injured person. This means that only the amount related to the injury will be considered, while the actual damage is disregarded. To be paid a special compensation, you must have been left incapacitated as a result of the accident. That means that you are no longer able to carry out your normal daily activities, like going to work.

Symptoms of Whiplash

Symptoms of whiplash include pain in the neck and spine. You may feel headaches and experience numbing sensations accompanied by “pins and needles” feelings the nerves are trying to send messages through a blockage. You can get whiplash even if your car was not moving very quickly, so if you have difficulty turning your head from side to side and other limitations in your neck, you should seek whiplash compensation advice.

Treatments for Whiplash

While you wait for your claim, you can seek therapy or other massage-related medical treatments to speed up the healing process and open blocked nerves. Your general practitioner may prescribe a supportive collar so you can get back to your normal daily activities. You may also want to use ice and painkillers as a treatment, too. It is not uncommon for whiplash pain to last for many, many years.

Specialized Solicitors

Some solicitors specialize in filing claims for victims of car accidents resulting in whiplash. It is easy to find a no win, no fee solicitor to help you file your claim and if you genuinely have a claim, the law requires you to use legal support. When you have whiplash, take the time to find legal support to give you appropriate whiplash compensation advice.
