A longitudinal brain imaging study tracking participants suffering from back injuries claims chronic pain may – quite literally – be in the patient’s head.
“For the first time we can explain why people who may have the exact same initial pain either go on to recover or develop chronic pain,” explained Professor A. This study, conducted at Northwestern University Illinois, studied a group of 40 people who had experienced back pain for a time span between 4 – 16 weeks and were monitored over the course of 1 year.
It is interesting to know that, considering the study is correct, that a great deal of compensation cases in this country could actually be caused by claimant's brains as opposed to injuries!
That isn't to say that such people are doing this consciously, quite the opposite infact. It turns out that certain people are just genetically predisposed to feel ongoing chronic pain.
